Professional Tree Removal Services in the High Peak

Expert, Safe, and Reliable Tree Felling by North Cheshire Forestry.

When you live and work in the High Peak, you know that the landscape can be as challenging as it is beautiful. Dealing with trees in this region requires more than just a chainsaw; it requires experience, local knowledge, and a steady hand.

At North Cheshire Forestry, we have been working with trees since 1976. We aren’t a “here today, gone tomorrow” outfit. We are a team of dedicated professionals who understand how to manage trees safely, whether they are situated in a tight garden in a town centre or on an exposed hillside.

We pride ourselves on doing the job properly. That means turning up when we say we will, working efficiently, and leaving your property tidy. We take the stress out of what can be a dangerous job.

Areas We Cover

Based locally, we serve homeowners, landowners, and businesses across the High Peak and Derbyshire, as well as neighbouring Cheshire areas. If you are in or near the following locations, we are your local experts:

  • High Peak: New Mills, Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Buxton, Glossop, Hayfield, Chinley.
  • Cheshire & Borders: Disley, Marple, Poynton, Stockport.
  • Derbyshire Dales: Hope Valley, Castleton, Bamford, and surrounding villages.

What We Do: Complete Tree Removal

Ideally, we all want to keep trees standing. They provide shade, habitat, and character to our properties. However, there are times when removal is the only viable option.

A tree might be dead, dying, or diseased (such as Ash Dieback which is prevalent in our area). It might have grown too large for its location, threatening the foundations of your house, blocking all natural light, or interfering with overhead cables. In some cases, a tree may have suffered storm damage and become an immediate hazard to the public or your family.

Our tree removal service covers everything from small garden ornamentals to massive forestry giants. There are generally two ways we approach removing a tree, and we will always choose the method that ensures the safety of your property and our team.

1. Directional Felling

If space allows, usually in larger gardens, fields, or woodland, we can fell the tree from the ground. This involves making precise cuts at the base of the trunk to direct the tree to fall into a clear, designated zone. This is the fastest method, but it requires ample open space to ensure nothing is damaged when the tree hits the ground.

2. Sectional Dismantling

In the High Peak, many of our customers live in terraced streets or have gardens with limited access. When a tree is situated near a building, a greenhouse, a road, or a fence, we cannot simply chop it down.

Instead, our NPTC-trained climbers ascend the tree using ropes and harness systems. We take the tree apart piece by piece, starting from the crown and working our way down. Large branches and timber sections are carefully lowered using rigging lines to ensure they don’t smash into the ground or damage your patio. It’s a controlled, precise operation that allows us to remove huge trees from even the tightest of spaces.

How We Provide the Service

We know that hiring a tradesperson can sometimes be a headache. We aim to make the process as smooth and transparent as possible. Here is how we work when you hire North Cheshire Forestry:

Step 1: The Site Visit & Quote
Give us a call. We will arrange a time to visit your property to look at the tree. We don’t guess over the phone. We need to see the access, the health of the tree, and the surroundings. We will provide you with a clear, no-obligation quote. No hidden costs.

Step 2: Checks and Permissions
This is a crucial step that many cowboys ignore. If your property is in a Conservation Area or the tree has a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) on it, you need permission from the local council to do the work. As professionals, we can help check the status of your trees and assist with the application process. If you cut down a protected tree without permission, you (and the contractor) could face heavy fines. We make sure you stay on the right side of the law.

Step 3: The Operations
On the day of the work, our team arrives fully equipped. We utilize modern, well-maintained machinery and adhere strictly to BS3998 standards for tree work. We brief the team on safety, set up our exclusion zones, and get to work.

Step 4: The Clean Up
We believe a tree surgeon’s job isn’t finished until the garden is tidy. We won’t leave you with a mountain of brash to deal with. We chip the branches, remove the timber (unless you want to keep it), and rake up the sawdust.

Why Choose North Cheshire Forestry?

You need to know that the people working on your property are safe, legal, and competent. Tree surgery is high-risk work, and it requires high-level training. Here is why you can trust us.

Established in 1976

We have been operating for nearly 50 years. You don’t last that long in this trade unless you are doing good work and treating customers fairly. We have seen every type of tree problem imaginable.

Fully Insured & Trustmark Status

We carry full Public Liability Insurance. In the unlikely event that something goes wrong, you are protected. We also hold Trustmark status, which is the government-endorsed quality scheme. This gives you assurance regarding our technical competence and customer service.

Highly Trained Staff (NPTC)

We don’t employ amateurs. All our staff are NPTC (National Proficiency Tests Council) trained. This is the industry standard for chainsaw use, climbing, and aerial rescue. We invest in our team so they can do the best job for you.

Trade Body Memberships

We are members of several trade bodies, including the FCA (Forestry Contracting Association). We stay up to date with the latest safety regulations and industry best practices.

Our Environmental Promise

We work with nature every day, so we respect it. We hate waste. When we remove a tree, we ensure that the byproduct is put to good use rather than ending up in a landfill.

Recycling Timber and Green Waste
We have a strict environmental policy to recycle 100% of the removed timber and branches.

  • Woodchip: The brushwood is chipped and sent to local allotments, farms, and garden centres to be used for mulch or soil improvement.
  • Logs: Larger timber is processed into logs for firewood, keeping local homes warm and reducing the need for fossil fuels.

Protecting Wildlife
We are animal lovers. It is illegal to disturb nesting birds during the active season. Before we start any work, we perform a wildlife assessment. If we find active nests, we will not touch the tree until the chicks have fledged. We also keep an eye out for bat roosts, which are strictly protected by law. We work with the environment, not against it.

The Dangers of DIY Tree Removal

We often get calls from people who have tried to tackle a tree themselves to save money, only to get halfway through and realize they are in danger.

Chainsaws are unforgiving tools. Combined with working at height, the risks are severe. Furthermore, predicting how a tree will fall requires physics and experience; get it wrong, and you could take out a fence, a car, or even injure yourself.

There is also the issue of tension. Trees that have fallen in storms often hold massive amounts of tension in the trunk. Cutting them incorrectly can cause the tree to snap or roll violently. Please, for your own safety, leave the chainsaws to the professionals who have the PPE and the training to use them safely.

Stump Removal

Once a tree is removed, you are left with the stump. While some people like to turn them into garden features or bird tables, often they are trip hazards or simply in the way of new planting or paving.

We can provide advice on stump removal. Whether you want to poison the stump to stop regrowth or grind it out completely to below ground level, we can discuss the best options during our site visit.
